Hey Friend! Is it just me, or have we reached epidemic proportions of:
- addiction
- depression
- anxiety
- media distraction
- discontentment
People feel disconnected and aimless.
If we’re not affected, we know someone who is, either a friend or a family member.

These are real problems with no easy solutions.
I believe recognizing and acting on life-mission can help those suffering with these problems. If more people understood and lived life mission, more people would experience ABUNDANCE. People would be happier, there would be less contention, and more peace in the world!
I realize I’m making a pretty audacious claim. But I don’t think I’m exaggerating.
Keep reading to find out what life mission is and how living it can change the world.
A real life example.
Diane Latiker, a 46 year-old mother and grandmother living in one of the most violent neighborhoods of Chicago, looked forward to some free time after raising her eight children. With only one teen daughter left at home her freedom seemed just around the corner. She took her daughter and her friends to movies, swimming, and fishing to keep them busy. Anything to keep them off the streets.
When Diane’s mother noticed how the young people loved and respected her she suggested she start an official gathering place for the youth. Diane says she didn’t want to do it. “Because I had one child left at home, she was thirteen and she would be gone to college at eighteen, I would be free or so I thought,” said Diane. 1
But she thought about it and prayed over that idea for days.
Still undecided, she invited her daughter’s friends into her home one afternoon.
“They shared with me the issues they now face as teenagers. The boys being approached by gangs, the girls being approached by boys/men about sex. They all shared some issues like fatherless homes, fear of violence, failing in school, poverty and a sense of hopelessness when it came to their community. When they were done, I felt compelled to give them everything I had in me.” 2
When most people locked themselves up safely in their own homes she opened her doors to the youth off the streets, fed them, loved them, listened to them, and gave them opportunities to be successful. It started with 10 youth, then 50, then 75 youth all gathered in her home at all hours of the day. She gave them hope and a new life. And in the process she too found joy and renewal.
She now runs a non-profit organization that has helped thousands of youth. 3

Do you hear the call?
Like Diane Latiker you too have specific important work you can do to make the world a better place.
You can change lives, save lives, and improve lives.
You are needed to spread joy, truth, beauty, and abundance.
You are commissioned by God to do amazing work among your family, your neighbors, the strangers in your city, and even the people across the world from you.
You are invited to change the world!
Do you hear the theme music yet from your favorite superhero movie? It’s really that epic.
God commissions us to collaborate with him to accomplish his work. That is truly monumental. And it happens everyday to mortals just like you and me when we are prepared. We don’t have to be experts or super-human. We just need a willing heart and faith.
About her work with the youth in her neighborhood,, Diane says, “I was hooked, I wanted to do more, but how? I was just a mother, a parent, a 46 year old grandmother. This is where my faith came in, I started to pray and ask GOD to guide me, teach me how to help. I started researching what other organizations were doing and what was needed to effectively help these young people. The deeper I got involved, the more I knew this is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.” 4
What is life mission?
Life mission has three specific characteristics that differentiate it from personal dreams and goals, as explained by life-mission expert Audrey Rindlisbacher in her book The Mission Driven Life: The 7 Laws of Life Mission and How to Live Them: 5

What does living life mission look like?
Living life mission is:
- Recognizing you have calls to greatness from God.
- Having courage and self discipline to prepare for when the calls come.
- Acting even when you’re afraid, uncomfortable, and feeling inadequate.
- Pushing through to accomplish the work even when difficulties frustrate your way.
“As you’ll come to understand, the truth about life mission is that it is a lifestyle, it’s a way of thinking and being. It’s dedication to being your best self, to serving your community in meaningful ways and not seeking the spotlight but doing what you are great at in a way that services mankind, while bettering yourself and everyone involved. It’s living a life grounded on a strong moral foundation, one in which we are true to conscience, live our lives in accordance with true principles, tell ourselves the truth about who we are and what we are good at and prepare properly to have permanent solutions to real world problems.” Rindlisbacher, p. 51 6
Living life-mission can transform your life.
Living life mission changes the way you see your life and the way you use your time. It invigorates you. It makes life exciting and purposeful. It is living life intentionally, and connected to God in thought and actions. It brings ABUNDANCE to your life: hope, motivation, joy, courage, and peace even when things are hard.

I finally was blessed with a passion that filled my soul. When I began to get involved with children from my neighborhood, something began to happen.
I started to feel vibrant, useful, giving.
Each day began to be an adventure; I would stay up nights thinking of ways to make their day better and more uplifting.
The joy in my heart would fill up, just knowing they depended on me to be safe, to be cared for, it was an amazing feeling. They got back in school, got out of gangs, stopped fighting, were so happy when their grades started improving, became empowered, all because I opened my home.
I was having the time of my life, they made me laugh, cry, think, create, feel validated, it was an awesome feeling and nothing was going to stop me at this point.”
~Diane Latiker 7
Living life mission also fills my soul. It brings abundance into my life!
This is how it works for me:

Audrey Rindlisbacher describes this cycle beautifully. I love, love, love what she says here. Yes, it’s a big block of text but it’s perfect. Read all of it and be inspired!
You can choose life mission or not. But, it is clear from a study of those who engage in an active pursuit of mission that their lives take on a level of depth and purpose and joy unavailable to those who do not. In every case, when they wanted to do a work for God and they prepared themselves properly to do that work, God had something for them to do that called for the best within them, a work that perfectly fitted their unique gifts and a work that enriched their life, their family’s lives and the lives of those they served. It’s almost magical to watch.
Time after time as these individuals turned their hearts to God, discovered and developed their talents, put their lives in order with truth and paid the price for a great education, the call came. In every case, God showed them what was next, what further preparation they needed to complete, who they needed to serve and the direction they needed to head.
As they courageously executed what they felt called to do, doors were opened and the way became increasingly clear. In every case, obstacles arose, their faith was tested and they had to persevere through opposition. And, in every case, when they saw things through to the end, a deep satisfaction and fulfillment filled their souls as they watched their work bless those around them.
Eventually, their vision of what they and God could accomplish together expanded; they felt another call or an expansion of their current work. Then they were off again, cycling back through the Laws, strengthening their relationship with God even more, learning more about themselves, coming to a higher level of truth, deepening their understanding of the world and preparing themselves for a greater work.” ~Rindlisbacher, .p. 47-50 8
This is exactly the cycle I experience time and time again. She describes it so perfectly!
A recent example for me was just after I finally found out my chronic illness had a name: lymes disease. I had been in bed for days healing at the beginning of a long recovery. I was in a new state after a recent move with no connections or commitments. I felt pretty vulnerable and uncertain. You can read more of that story here.
In my heartache I sought God’s guidance. I plead to know what he had for me to do in this new, hard situation I found myself in. What did He want me to do?
Like night turning to day he showed me. He enlightened my mind. He gave me a life-mission call. I found it was a call I’d been preparing for all my adult life.
That call was to create this website and help others come to understand principles of abundance that I had relied on to feel joy even amidst hardship. Each article I have written has brought me joy (and hard work and sacrifice which are all part of life mission). As I felt joy and could see God working through me, my belief and hope were renewed and the cycle continues to this day as I work this life mission I’ve been given.
I feel happiness. I wake up excited for the work I get to do. My feelings of aimlessness, sadness, and grief are swallowed up in joy and purpose.
All over the world and throughout history God has commissioned men and women to help move his work forward and to help, comfort, rescue, and lift his children. People like Martin Luther, Joan of Arc, Christopher Columbus, Mother Teresa, and Corrie Ten Boom.
Just ordinary people who heard the call, prepared, and courageously acted on what they felt inspired by God to do. People like Diane Latiker, me, and you.
Preparing for and living life mission is how we live life abundantly!
